MakeUp Monday: Easy Thanksgiving Look

Can you believe that Thanksgiving is this week? It is coming up so fast. Hopefully you all are getting ready, and planning on seeing loved ones. And if you are hosting, that you have put the turkey in the refrigerator this morning to thaw. Don’t want to serve still frozen turkey. That never goes over to well.

fourchristmases_3_1600

Have you guys seen the movie from a few years ago, Four Christmases with Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn? They have to run around and see both sets of divorced parents. Anyway, that is our Thanksgiving. We will be having four Thanksgiving dinners. (With three kiddos in tow, this will be no easy feat) We won’t need to eat again for a month.

Easy Thanksgiving Makeup

Today,  I thought that I would walk through a great simple Thanksgiving makeup look. Something to make you look all put together, yet festive. And the best part, it will look great on everyone; no matter your skin tone. Continue reading

Easy Ways To Look Younger

Eays Ways To Look Younger

In my head I am going to age gracefully. That one day, I am going to wake up and embrace my wrinkles and gray hair. That I am going to love seeing a wise woman in the mirror looking back at me. I am going to see a beautiful face, full of the life she has lead.

But lets be real, that is not happening today or any time soon. Movie stars, models, and the like age (cause we all do) but without any outward sign of getting older. That is going to be me. While I probably won’t be getting any plastic surgery or botox, only because I am to worry about having some weird rare reaction. Then I will really be hosed.

There are some very simple makeup techniques that can give you the appearance of a younger face. Best part, there is no crazy contouring to learn how to do, no “only a professional makeup artist can do this without looking like a clown” ways to apply it. Simple, do today, every one can do these, techniques; that are not going to take you any longer then you already spend doing your makeup.

Now some of them are going to seem a little odd. And some you might fight me on (I know this because it took me a while to come around on a bunch of these). Some of it is even going to seem counterproductive. But I promise that they will all work and having you looking younger in a few moments.

Lets start by thinking about what makes a face look young?

  • Big Eyes
  • Full lips
  • No Dark Circles
  • Rosy Cheeks

Let’s break out how to achieve that look-

  • Big Eyes
    • Put down the black eyeliner and back away. This was the hardest for me, I am/was addicted to my black eyeliner pencil. Not only that, I was a line the waterline all the way around type of girl. While, my eyes always stood out, and it was the first thing that people saw; they looked small. Black line around anything will make it look smaller. Swap that black out for a dark brown. I actually use MAC- Brun now for my eyeliner and it looks perfect.
    • Don’t line all your eye. Again this was a hard one. For the longest time, I struggled with feeling weird without having any eyeliner under my lower lashes. But I promise you, it will open up your eyes without it.
    • Only line the outer half to two-thirds of your upper lid. And even a slight, super super slight, wing will pull your eyes upward. Mini eye-lift thank you very much.
  • Full Lips
    • This seems to be the one that I argue with people the most about. Don’t use a dark lip color during the day. Yes a bold red lip is always chic, but just like lining all around your eyes will make them look smaller, a solid dark lip will make it look smaller too. Now people will notice your lips, but they won’t have that pouty full look, that is associated with a younger face. If you have a lot of pigment in your lips, go easy with just a chapstick or a light, non-sparkly, gloss. If you are losing the pigment (cause we all will) ease up on the color and move to a light pink or a color that was close to your natural color.
  • No Dark Circles
    • Okay here is one that you are going to argue with me again on. Stop using mascara on your lower lashes. While in theory, it would make your lashes stand out; making your whole eye area look bigger, this is not what happens. It can send dark shadows under your eye giving the appearance of dark circle.
    • Find a great highlighting concealer. Highlighting doesn’t have to mean having a sheen to it, but it will be designed to lighten the area. I LOVE No7 Radiant Glow Concealer and use it daily. While it is quite light, just blend it in and it is amazing. Plus it stays put all day, without any creasing.
  • Rosy Cheeks
    • Ditch the tera cotta colored blush. I am not totally sure where this trend started, but it seems like a vast majority of women have this brownish, orangish, reddish blush color. It is not a natural flush color and does not help your rosy glow. Instead opt for a blush with slight highlighting capabilities and something that is way more on the pink side. I use Laura Geller Baked Blush in Pink Grapefruit. It has a bit of bronze in there, way more natural pink, and a hint of shimmer. Also, Tarte has a great new blush in Glisten. It has a lot of the same properties of the Laura Geller.

So what are your thoughts? Which of these are you going to fight with me over? Do you have any tips or tricks to looking young? Do you even try to look younger, or is that a weird me thing?

Christmas Eve Look

Is everyone ready for Christmas? Are all the stocking hung by the chimney with care? Can you believe that tomorrow, like TOMORROW is Christmas Eve? Where did December go? We are mostly ready over here, I do try to get things lined up well in advance; because I don’t like the added stress of racing around to find things that have long been sold out. BUT….. I have yet to start wrapping anything. I am a major procrastinator when it comes to wrapping. Anyone else? Well since tomorrow is Christmas Eve, then lets not waste any more time and get to the point.. A great Christmas Eve makeup look

No7_eyes2

I know that I have talked about Boots No7 before, but it is by far one of my favorite brands. Everything that they do from lipsticks to skin care, is just of the highest quality. It out preforms (in my opinion) the majority of the higher priced brands. That is why I was THRILLED when they sent me this mini pallet to try. So this post will have a review AND a quick easy Christmas Eve Eye Look.

It has 8 wonderful shades that all blend so easily and work well together. It is a bit on the neutral/cool side, but for winter that is right on trend. I love all the gray and purple tones.

  1. Is a very slightly shimmery white. Great for highlighting
  2. Is a minor glittery gray.
  3. Is a pearl peach color. This is great as your base color.
  4. Is a highly glittery purple/gray color.
  5. Is (the only) matte light brown color. I love this for blending.
  6. Is a dark glittery purple, think eggplant.
  7. Is a shimmery nude color. This is actually my favorite in the set.
  8. It a dark shimmery black. Perfect for lining your eyes with.

All of this for only $10. Yup that is right, go to any Walgreens or some Targets, you can get this awesome pallet for only $10. And it has the same staying power, and intensity of any of the luxury brand. A great makeup.

Onto the easy Christmas Eve look, now for me I tend not to go to dark for Christmas and Christmas Eve. I like staying in the sweet side.

  1. Apply #3 from lash to brow.
  2. Apply #7 starting at your outer corner, working in. Bring color in about halfway. Making sure not to bring above your crease.
  3. Apply #5 in your crease and slightly above.
  4. Apply #1 just under your eyebrows.
  5. {Optional} I like to line my upper lash line with my Kajal Eyeliner in Rose Gold.
  6. Coat with No7 Mascara

Super easy and still festive for the holiday. What about you, what is your look for Christmas Eve? Do you go Naughty or Nice?

LOTW- Got The Blues?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Love the color blue? Want to learn how to wear this trendy color, without looking like Mimi from the Drew Carey Show? There are so many great perks about wearing blue. First, it makes the whites of your eyes look whiter. Second, it opens the eyes wider. And lastly, it is a fun way to be a little bit edgy; without feeling like you are trying to be a teen. You can go dark/navy blue, there is bright/electric blue, there is a light/sky blue; so many options and ways to wear it.

This season the trend is to wear the lighter shades of blue under your eye. This will give your eyes a wider, more open look. If you favor the darker, bolder blues, it is best to wear this on your upper lash line to amp up the edge. If you are going to rocking the blue, then it is best to keep all of your other makeup very neutral and natural.

MakeUp Needed-

  • MAC Eyeshadow- Brulee
  • MAC Eyeshadow- Omega
  • Rimmel Eyeliner- Navy
  • No7 Lift and Luminate Foundation
  • Bobbie Brown blush- Antigua
  • No7 Lipstick- Rumor
  • Benefit- They’re Real Mascara

Step 1-
Apply Brulee all over your eyelid- from lash to eyebrow.

Step 2-
Apply Omega into your crease, using windshield type motions.

Step 3-
Apply Navy eyeliner to your upper lash line. For a nice winged look, make the outer corners a bit thicker and thin it out as you move inward.

Step 4-
Stipple on your foundation where you need it most. Think under your eyes, around your nose, on your forehead and on your chin.

Step 5-
Blend in foundation using small circular motions all over your face.

Step 6-
Apply blush, starting at your hairline and moving down your cheekbone.

Step 7-
Swipe lipstick on your lips.

Step 8-
As always, last but not least, curl your eyelashes and apply your mascara.

This is a quick and simple look, yet you will look pulled together, chic and trendy. So how about you, would you be able to pull off the blue eyeliner trend? What are your thoughts on it?

LOTW- Fun Fall Look

photo (50)

Yea for fall. Is anyone else playing with the darker, bolder colors yet? I tell ya, Labor Day rolled around and I broke out all my edgy colors. While this seasons “it” colors are green and champange; purples will never go out of style. They look amazing on a lot of difference skin tones and eye colors. Plus anyone with green in their eyes will benefit from the purple giving them a huge POP. I was so lucky to have been at a preview event for Phoenix Fashion Week, that Boots No7 was sponsoring and they totally stocked me up on some must haves for this fall. The best part about Boots No7 Cosmetics… They are a drugstore brand that has major playing power, without breaking the bank.

MakeUp Needed-

  • No7 Lift and Luminate Foundation
  • Black Eyeliner
  • No7 Smoothing and Brightening Base
  • No7 Forest Fruits Eyeshadow Pallet
  • No7 Stay Perfect Long Lasting Mascara
  • No7 Stay Perfect Blemish Cover
  • No7 Moisture Drench Lipstick in Rumor

Step 1-
Line both upper and lower waterlines with your black eyeliner. I would only line the outer corner bringing it in about 2/3 of the way to your nose.

Step 2-
Dot a small amount of the Eye Base onto your eyes, and blend all over lid. This is a great peachy nude color that will brighten your eye area, as well as, cover any imperfections on the lid.

Step 3-
Using your Forest Fruits pallet, sweep the lightest shade all over your eyelid; from lash line to eyebrow.

Step 4-
Still using the Forest Fruits pallet and a small brush, apply the darkest shade on the outer V of your eyelid. This would be along the lash line, then at the far outer corner blend it up into the crease.

Step 5-
Last time, using the Forest Fruits pallet blend the mid-tone color into the crease and slightly above it using a windshield wiper motion. You are wanting to blend out any harsh lines.

Step 6-
Using a stippling brush, stipple the Lift and Luminate Foundation onto the parts of your face that need a bit more coverage (under eyes, around the nose, on your chin and forehead). Using small circular motions blend foundation all over face. Remember to get all the way under your chin and to the hair lines.

Step 7-
These days it seems like my girls are refusing to sleep. Between the three of them, I seem to be up a few times each night. This is taking a major toll on my dark circles. No7 has a great blemish cover, that covers everything without getting cakey or creasing. If you need a little help looking more awake, apply a swipe of this under the eyes. Then pat to blend in.

Step 8-
Apply blush along your cheek bones, starting at your hair line and moving toward your nose.

Step 9-
Apply the lipstick in Rumour to your lips. The nice subtle nude color will help balance out the purple on your eyes, keeping attention to them.

Step 10-
Last but never least, curl your lashes and apply your mascara.

What about you guys, do you rock the purple eyeshadow? What are you most excited to try with the change of the season?

LOTW- First Fall Look 2014

2Faced Fall 2014

Can you believe that it is fall already. Okay, yes fall is not technically for a little bit. September 22 to be exact; but to me Labor Day signifies the end of summer and the start of fall. Anyone else feel that way?

One of my favorite things about fall is the change in your makeup routine. Now don’t get me wrong, all the pumpkin flavors, the need for scarves, the cinnamon and nutmeg; also all really good things. But with makeup, we get to make the change away from the natural looks. We can breakout the darker colors; bold lips, dark eyes, are all acceptable for fall. I love being able to be a bit more dramatic, a bit more edgy. To make it even better, this year fall is going to be big on the greens and champagne colors. Which has been my favorite fall colors for years, just this year I get to wear them AND be trendy lol.

If you have read my blog for a while, you have seen the reviews on this pallet (which you can read here) and you know my love affair with Too Faced. So it is no surprise that I am going to kick off this season focusing on…. drum roll….. Too Faced!!

Makeup Needed
(I did put affiliated links to Amazon if you need to see exactly what I am talking about. Just click the links and it will take you straight to the info pages)-

Step 1-
Line upper and lower waterline with the SmashBox black eyeliner. To avoid eyeliner overload, I typically only the line the outer corners.

Step 2-
Using the Natural At Night pallet, apply Spotlight all over the eyelid. From lash line to brow. This gives a nice uniform canvas to work with.

Step 3-
Apply Moonstone on eyelid. Starting at the outer corner and blending inward. You will want to bring this color in about 2/3 toward your inner corner, gradually lightening the color. The color should be from the lash line to the crease.

Step 4-
Apply Full Moon, in the inner corner and in the crease. Using windshield wiper motions, back and forth across the eyelid blending everything.

Step 5-
Apply Night Fever, along the upper lash line. I tend to have the outer corners with a slightly thicker line, having the line get thinner as I move towards my inner corner.

Step 6-
Apply foundation all over face. I first stipple it only my face where I need the most coverage. Think under eyes, around nose, on chin, and on forehead. Then blend using small circular motions.

Step 7-
Apply blush by sweeping down the cheek bone. See here for a great, simple way to apply blush that will look great on all face shapes.

Step 8-
Apply lipstick. I like using a nude color, this helps to make your eyes stand out a bit more.

Step 9-
And like always, last but not least, curl your eyelashes and apply two coats of mascara.

Step 10-
Be sure to tell yourself that you are beautiful.

Are you guys looking forward to breaking out the darker fall makeup colors or do you keep it simple year around? Are you going to rock this season’s it colors? What is your favorite thing about fall?

LOTW- Queen Elsa From Frozen

ba2eb918f82ac5b1edf0467ae534217d

LOTW- Queen Elsa From Frozen

Anyone else’s daughters STILL obsessed with Frozen? While I admit, I really like this movie. I like that the Princesses are the heroines. I like that the Anna choose her sister over the boy. I like that the entire movie was sisters trying to protect and help each other. While yes there was the romance/boy drama that is in all Disney Princess movies, it was not the main theme. See lots of great things to love about this girl power Disney Princess movie…..

HOWEVER……

After seeing it thirty times (thanks dad for making sure the girls got this on Blu-Ray to watch over and over and over) the song Let It Go, is kinda like nails on a chalkboard. Not only is the movie on constant repeat, my girls have discovered the joy of You-Tube and listen to the songs on there. Basically some aspect of Frozen is on at all times at my house.

No big surprise, that they want to be Anna and Elsa for Halloween. It’s all they talk about. Really… it ….. is….. all….. they…. talk….. about…. But, being the supportive mom that I am (now with a slight tick at even the mention of Frozen), I am on the search for a great costume that I can make easily. Cause to buy them from Disney is ridiculously expensive, no thank you. Part of the costume, is having the perfect makeup. So I have been trying and trying to get Elsa’s perfect. I have to admit it is harder than I thought. My solution? Onto Pinterest I go; this girl nailed it. She duplicated it so perfectly. I am so impressed!

I think that with it being on a person and the close up with the eyes closed, I will be able to duplicate it. Pretty excited to get started. How about you guys, are your daughters going to be Anna or Elsa for Halloween? Please tell me that I am not the only one with kids already thinking (and talking) about Halloween already?

LOTW- Simple Natural Summer Look

photo (43)

I am loving summer time. Everything from being outside, to sticky popsicle hands, to seeing the stars, lets not forget about amazing BBQ’s and the parties centered around the BBQ. With all this time outdoors, the last thing you need is a face-full of heavy makeup that will melt in the humid heat. SO here is my simple natural summer look.

Materials Used:

Step 1-
Line lower waterline with the Rimmel Nude color liner. For those of us who are use to lining our eyes with black or another dark color, this look takes a little getting use to. I kept hearing bloggers and makeup artists swear by this technique to make their eyes look more open and awake. To be completely honest, the first few times that I did it, I thought that I looked like something out of the 80’s. Everyone told me how great I looked and asked if I was sleeping better; I was very confused. Now that I am more use to the look, I have to say, the other bloggers were right. This really does make my eyes look bigger, and way less red (meaning more awake). It is a worth a try (and more then once).

Step 2-
Apply Burle from lashline to eyebrow.

Step 3-
Apply Copperplate on the outer corners of your eyes. From lash line to crease. The key is to blend, blend, blend.

Step 4-
Apply Omega in the crease and slightly above it.

Step 5-
Line upper lash-line, from outer corners in about two thirds of the way, with Dark Slate. This will give your eyes great definition but not has harsh as a black liner. You can wing it a little bit; or have it thicker at the outer corners of the eyes and narrowing as you move towards the inner corner. Even a simple line looks great with this look.

Step 6-
Stipple DD cream under your eyes, around your nose, on your chin, and on your forehead. Blend in with large circular motions. Making sure that you apply it all the way to the hairlines, ears and blending down your neck.

Step 7-
Apply tarte cheek stain by stippling it (straight from the tube) onto the high points of the apples of your cheek. Then using your buffing brush from EcoTools (see here for my review on this brush) blend it all in with small curricular motions up your cheek bone. Normally, I am not a fan of this method of application for blush. But with this particular blush, it is easy to achieve and blend upwards. Don’t be scared by the color of this blush (it is a very dark berry color), I was totally turned off by it. After trying it, I am a total convert. It is a great sheer, light berry color; that looks like a natural flush of the cheeks.

Step 8-
Apply a little bit of lipgloss. I am a huge fan of the BellaPierre lipgloss in Chocolate Cream. A very light nude color, lots of shine, but no stickiness.

Step 9-
Last but not least, curl your lashes and apply mascara.

A very simple natural summer look. What are your thoughts? Is this something that you would wear? Have you used any of these products before?

LOTW- Chasing Life

chasing life

Did anyone see the premier of this show, Chasing Life? It aired last week, and I have total mix feelings about it. This is odd, normally I know pretty quick if I am going to like something or not. But this show, I liked parts of it. I really disliked other parts of it.

The show is about April (Italia Ricci), a twenty something reporter that is working her way up the corporate ladder. She lives with her widowed mother and her troublesome younger sister. It follows her life and her trials. Then an uncle, that is not well liked, had to break the worst news possible: April has cancer.

The one thing that I LOVED about this show, was how they did April’s makeup. It is dramatic and brings all the attention to her eyes. Without being heavy. It actually is a pretty natural look. Talk about natural but better look!! It is soft and romantic; all while being totally day time wearable. Actually, I have been trying to perfect this look all weekend. Not only have I been able to nail it; I was able to duplicate it with my Too Faced- Chocolate Bar pallet!!! (See I told ya that this was the best pallet ever)

MakeUp Needed (I linked these to Amazon if you want the exact product that I used):

Step 1-
Apply “White Chocolate” all over your eyelid; lash-line to brow.

Step 2-
Apply “Milk Chocolate” in your crease.

Step 3-
Apply “Salted Caramel” over your eyelid; the football shaped area from your lash-line to crease.

Step 4-
Apply “Triple Fudge” in a V-shape on the outer corners of your eye. You will do this by lining your lower lash line; then follow up into your crease. Take it in about a third of the way through your crease.

Step 5-
Apply the BB Cream to your face by stippling it under your eyes, around your nose, on your chin and on your forehead. Then blend with large circular motions. Be sure to blend under your chin and down your neck too.

Step 6-
Apply the bronzer under your cheek bones. When looking straight into the mirror, trace from the edge of your eye down your cheek till you reach just under your cheek bone. Then sweep it along the bone, to your hairline. Blend in with circular motions. Apply a small amount to your temples, blending in with circular motion. And finally, apply some along your jaw line.

Step 7-
Apply blush to your cheek bones. Starting at your hair line, sweep down your cheek bone (staying on the cheek bone). Be sure to stop no close then two finger widths to your nose. Then blend using circular motions, back up your cheek bone.

Step 8-
Apply lipstick, make sure that you cover your entire lip so no pink is showing through.

Step 9-
Then to achieve her shiny pouty look, apply the lipgloss on top.

Step 10-
Like always, last but not least, curl your lashes and apply mascara.

There you go!! Let me know your thoughts. Do you like this look? Is this something that you would be able to wear out and about?

LOTW- Maleficent Inspiration

maleficent-image09

Has anyone had a chance to see this yet? I am so looking forward to seeing it. Maybe I will take Tink out, and have a mommy-daughter date. It has been a while since we had one and I know that this movie is a bit to dark for the little girls.

Today’s look is inspired by this movie. Those chiseled cheeks, those red lips, and the perfectly heavy lined eyeliner. While we will never have Angelina’s bone structure, we can copy this look. This look will be a bit more intensive than some of the other looks, but won’t be any harder to accomplish.

MakeUp Used-

  • Black Eyeliner- Both in a pencil and in a gel
  • Mascara
  • MAC- Brule (eyeshadow)
  • MAC- Omega (eyeshadow)
  • MAC- Brun (Eyeshadow)
  • MAC- Shroom (Eyeshadow but we will be using as a highlighter for your cheeks)
  • MAC- CopperPlate (Eyeshadow)
  • Clinique Better than MakeUp (Foundation)
  • Too Faced- Chocolate Soleil (Bronzer)
  • Clinique- Sugared Maple (Lipstick)

Step 1-
Line both your upper and lower water-lines (that rim around your eye) with the black eyeliner.

Step 2-
Line your upper eyelashes with the black pencil as well. This will give you a guide for later when we apply the black gel liner.

Step 3-
Apply Brule all over lid, from lash line to eyebrow.

Step 4-
Apply Copperplate over lid, being careful not to go above the crease.

Step 5-
Blend Omega into the crease and slightly above it.

Step 6-
Apply Brun heavily along both the upper and lower lashes.

Step 7-
Apply your gel eyeliner along the top lash line.

Step 8-
Apply your foundation all over your face by stippling it on (under your eyes, around your nose, on your chin and on your forehead) then blending with large circular motions. (I am on vaca and totally left this foundation at home. Please forgive me that it is not in the picture.)

Step 9-
We are going to apply quite a bit of bronzer, the look will be harsh and dramatic. You want to apply this just under your cheek bones. It will accentuate your cheek bones making them pop a bit. The darker the bronzer the more they will pop.

Step 10-
Now we want to highlight the tops of your cheek bones, again to help make those bone pop. Apply Shroom to the tops of your cheek bones. (The great thing about highlighter, is that you don’t need to go out and buy any additional product. Any light, slightly shimmer eyeshadow color will work)

(Note- we are going to skip on the blush with this look)

Step 11-
Apply a dark red lipstick. Personally I like Sugared Maple.

Step 12-
Last but never least, curl your lashes and apply mascara.

What are you thoughts. Do you ever wear this much makeup? Is this a look that you might wear on a date night out?
