• Fashion Friday- Effortlessly Chic

    Fashion Style
    Fashion Friday….. Effortlessly Chic

I am so happy that the warm temperatures are here to stay. While scarves and coats are nice. There is something so girlie about being able to wear pretty dresses; without having to wear leggings and without having to freeze while wearing them. lol. I am all about the pink and black mix. I blame it on all of my years of ballet. (Black leotard and pink tights was what I wore for many many many years) People who know me well, often tease me that my entire wardrobe consists entirely of: Black, Pink and Gray. Now in my defense, I do own a white tee-shirt and a blue dress too. But other than that they are right.

    • Dresses– OMG I am LOVING this light pink, loose-fitting dress; with the little pop of black on the belt. To me this is perfection. And for the cherry on the top, the price point is completely reasonable. A little higher than what I normally pay, but nowhere near a designer dress or anything. With it being as loose and flowy (according to WordPress I just made that word up, but I am pretty sure flowy is a word. If I am wrong let me know, cause I use it a lot lol) as it is, it will look flattering on a variety of body shapes. Also, by not wearing the belt tight, but hanging like it is, it will draw the eye away from any “mommy pouch” one might have. I couldn’t pick just one this week, so I picked two. I am loving the color block dress too. Once again light pink and black look marvelous together. I am loving how the color blocks are all different sizes. You don’t run into to much of a striped look. Plus over your hips and thighs will be a solid black panel, no running into weird horizontal lines across your behind. (A huge issue with me)
    • Shoes– Both of these dresses could without a doubt be toned up for a night out with a pair of heels, hair pulled up and some amazing earrings. But what I like about them both, you can also wear them with a pair of sandals. Love a good pair of sandals (almost as much as a good pair of wedges). I do like a pair of thong sandals, but I know lots of you don’t.
    • Hair-¬†I am so jealous of those that can pull of this hair. The perfect, no fuss soft curls. I find myself staring at women at the store/mall/playground that can get their hair to do this. My hair is either Shirley Temple tight curls (to get a curl to stay in my hair) or 1970’s used an ironing board to keep my hair completely straight with absolutely no curl, no wave, no volume in it at all. There is no middle ground, there is no compromise. Those are my two looks. But, pairing these amazing dresses with sandals and softly curled hair, will make you look so effortlessly chic. Not quite bohemian, a bit more pulled together then that but on the same wave as it.

So what about you. If you wear a dress, do you tone it down with simple hair and sandals. Or if you go to the effort of wearing a dress do you get all dolled up? Pink and Black is it a pairing that you wear often? As always, I LOVE hearing your thoughts.

  • Blush 101

    photo (34)

Everyone knows about blush. Everyone knows that you should wear it. But do you have horrid flash backs of the 80’s style streaks, or have had a bad clown like experience? Making it hard to convince yourself to use it? Have no fear, blush is your best friend; it is easy to use with a light hand and a little practice.

Blush is one of the few products that will ALWAYS make you look younger. As we age we lose a lot of color in our cheeks. I look at my little girls and their checks are always a beautiful shade of pink. We could just be watching TV and their checks are pink. Mine not so much. Blush will help give that color back, making you look younger.

There are so many types of blush on the market; powders, creams, and in a pinch even lipstick can work as a check color. Personally I think that they all work the same, giving very similar results. Some people are set that creams are better, because they are more natural and blend into the skin. Others say that powders on the best, because they are easy to use and you don’t have to worry about them mixing weird with your foundation. It is a personal choice with what you like and what results you are wanting. I tend to stick with powder blushes. For me the are the easiest to work with, and since I use a powder foundation cream blushes don’t lay well onto of the powder.

My favorite blushes are the Bobbi Brown Ubber Pink Line. Antigua is a perfect very light matte pink color. It almost has a hint of brown in it to tone down the pink. For me it is the perfect day shade. The Pink Peony is a hot pink color. When I saw it, I was a little intimidated. I mean I am in my thirties, there is no way that I can pull off hot pink. But it actually goes on really sheer, and is a beautiful color. I wear it a lot when we are going out. Then there is no denying the cult classic NARS Orgasm. It is a magical blush that works on absolutely every skin tone. It is a brownish pink with gold shimmer in it. It will instantly make you look more awake and give your face a bit of illumination. If you are very slowly stepping into the world of blush, this is without a doubt the best blush to pick up. I promise you will not regret it.

There are a ton of different ways to wear blush. You can Pinterest blush and get thousands of different ideas. Some based on face shape, some based on if you are conturing too, some super simple, some way complicated using multiple blush colors. But for this 101, I am going to do a basic tutorial that will look good on all face shapes and will help frame your eyes (to me, makeup is all about setting up the eyes to have the main focus on your face).

    Step 1-
Sweep a blush brush over choice of blush. Then starting at the hair-line at the top of your check bone (where you touch your brush first will have the most color, by starting at the hair-line you will easily be able to blend it out and not run into to much blush on your check issues), sweep down your check bone.

    Step 2-
Stop at about two finger widths from your nose, while still on your check bone. A lot of tutorials say to focus on the apples of your checks, for me I don’t like this trend. First, when I smile and apply my brush to my apple then stop smiling, my brush is BELOW my check bone. Not prime blush area. (MakeUp Artist Goss Wayne has a great You Tube video on this too) Secondly, I like my blush to draw attention to my eyes. When it is focused on the apple, there is no line of color to follow around your face back to your eyes. Third, there is to fine of a line, for me, between perfect blush and scary porcelain doll blush. Thanks but no thanks, I want to be far far far away from that line.

    Step 3-
Blend in with circular motion back up your check bone then blend up hair-line to your temples.

Ta-Da you are done. Beautiful blush, that will make you look younger by giving your face back some color and you will have created a line for other eyes to follow to draw attention to your beautiful peepers.

So tell me, how do you apply blush? Do you like the current trend of apply on the apples or are you a blush along the check bone type of girl?

  • LOTW- Purple Smokey Eye

    photo (33)

Everyone loves a smokey eye. I have touch on a daytime smokey eye (you can check out that look here if you have a moment), and most everyone is familiar with traditional smokey eye. Since the color of the season is Orchid, or as most of us call it…purple. I thought that I would so a purple smokey eye. Last week I did a green eye look, but purple is my favorite color to play with. I use it a lot in my looks, with my hazel eyes, it makes the green in them really pop.

    Materials Needed:

    • Too Faced Boudoir Eyes
    • Black Eyeliner- A kohl pencil
    • Mascara
    • Maybelline BB Cream
    • Bobbi Brown blush in Antigua
    • Bobbi Brown lippy in Pale Beach #15

    Step 1-
Apply “In The Buff” all over eyelid; from lash line to eyebrow. This will give us a nice base (canvas) to work with.

    Step 2-
Apply “Voulez-Vous” on your eyelid; from lash line to crease. You will want to start the color on the outside corner and work your way in, take it about two-thirds of the way in.

    Step 3-
Apply “Birthday Suit” on the inner third of your eyelid; from lash line to crease.

    Step 4-
Apply “Lap Dance” in your crease. You will use this to smooth out any harsh lines, and to blend everything together. Using windshield wiper motions.

    Step 5-
Apply “French Tickler” along your top lash line.

    Step 6-
Line your lower waterline with the Black Kohl pencil.

    Step 7-
Apply “French Tickler” along your lower lash line; starting at the outer corner bring it in about a third of your lower lash line.

    Step 8-
Apply your BB cream by stippling it onto the areas that need more coverage (under your eyes, around your nose, the area between your eyebrows, and your chin). Then blend in with large circular motions. I apply my BB Cream or foundation AFTER my eye makeup on darker looks like this, in case of fallout. While I have very little fall out with Too Faced in general, it drives me nuts when I get my foundation perfect, to then have it ruined because I have dark fallout that won’t just sweep off.¬†

    Step 9-
Apply Bobbi Brown Blush in “Antigua”. You will apply a very light layer of this starting at your hair-line, and sweeping down your cheek bones. Then using circular motions blend it in. Then take the color up your hair-line towards your temples. You will want a very light blush, that will frame your eyes.

    Step 10-
Apply Bobbi Brown Lipstick in “Pale Beach #15”. If you are going this heavy on your eyes, then keep the look balanced by keeping those lips a nude color.

    Step 11-
Last, but never least, curl your eyelashes and apply mascara.

This is a look that I wear often, when the hubby is taking me out. How about you? Is this something that you would wear, or is it a bit to dark for you? Let me know. Also let me know if there is a certain look that you would like me to talk about.

  • Fashion Friday- Day At The Beach

    Day At The Beach

I am so ready for the summer!!! While I don’t live ANYWHERE near a beach, I long for the lazy days of it. Laying in the sand, enjoying the sun, listening to the girls playing in the water. Sounds like perfection to me, but maybe that is just what living in the desert does to someone. Does anyone live on the beach? Is it as great as it sounds? So I have no idea what one actually wears to the beach, but in my head this is what you would wear.

    • Shorts– Some sort of ripped up, super short shorts. You might see the ties of a swim suit poking up over the tops of them. In my mind, they would need a little bling on them too.
    • Tops– If you have a swimsuit on underneath, then you would need something simple and slightly loose. You will want it to be comfortable.
    • Shoes– Sandals and flip-flops would be a must, if you have to wear shoes. In my head, I would be barefoot. What a great natural (and fun) pedicure. Always having unlimited sand to scrub your piggies. Your feet would always look amazing.
    • Accessories– A big black hat to keep the sun off of your face. Plus how chic do the women look who can pull one off. One day I will own one of these hats. It is on the bucket list (I know silly item on the bucket list, but hey its my list). And big black sunglasses, because I don’t go anywhere without them. Then last, some big bag to hold: towel, sunscreen, book, and everything else that you might need at the beach.

So that is my dream beach outfit. What did I miss? What is your favorite item to wear at the beach?

  • The Best Is Always Last: Nicky’s Potions & Lotions

I have been so happy working with Nicky over at Nicky’s Potions and Lotions for the last few weeks. She is such an amazingly sweet person and her products are better than anything else on the market. We have gotten to know her a bit (you can check out our chat with her here) and we have played with some of the wonderful products that she was nice enough to send over (if you didn’t read about them last week, be sure to check them out here); but I saved the best for last…… In that package that she sent me, was one more item. Something that I didn’t review, I held onto it. Because it deserves its own post. What is so wonderful that it needs it completely own post?

Yup you read that right, deodorant. She makes an all organic, all natural deodorant that is AMAZING!!! Like mind-blowing good!!! Let me explain why this is such a great find for me. This is a terribly embarrassing problem, so no laughing at me. Deep Breath. I am a sweaty, stinky girl. Must be overactive sweat glands or something, because I seriously sweat ALL THE TIME. Then with sweating so much, there is a smell. So not lady like¬†and certainly not fun. It does a number on someones confidence. I have tried everything on the market. Antiperspirants ¬†do hardly anything, deodorants while masking the smell don’t help with the sweat, the ones that “work harder when you work” just give off an overly powerful floral smell. I have bought everything at the drugstore, I have even had prescription ones. Up until getting Nicky’s Nick Stick, nothing worked. In my head, I was doomed to be the girl in the back, always in tanks, because then at least the shirt won’t show that you have been sweating non-stop for the last two hours.

Since this is me, and I have tried everything, I was hesitant to try this deodorant that Nicky sent. I mean if not even prescription antiperspirants could help me; then how in the world could this “hippie” one be the answer.

    I was wrong.

    I was wrong.

    I was wrong.

Nick’s Stick is AWESOME!!! She sells it as a deodorant, but it is so much more. Yes it is a deodorant, the actual stick has almost no smell to it at all. (There is a very very light natural scent, but my nose is super sensitive. My hubby could not detect any scent to it.) Yet, it prevents any smell from coming off of you. It does not just cover up smell, like most on the market. When wearing it though, I don’t sweat. She never claims that this is an antiperspirant, but it is. I can even wear a tee-shirt without worrying if I will have those lovely spots. Nothing, no sweat. For someone like me that sweats a lot this is a really big deal. No wetness, no smell, all natural without any harsh chemicals. AMAZING!

Nick’s stick is quite different from anything else that I have tried. It is kinda like a big chapstick. Actually it is exactly like a big chapstick. So give it a moment to absorb into your skin. But it will change your life here!!

So please tell me that I am not the only sweaty girl out there. What did you guys do to combat this embarrassing issue?

  • Bronzer 101

    bronzer 101

It is that time of year again, everyone seems to be wanting that wonderful sun-kissed look. Bronzers are outselling blushes, it is being added to makeup bags left and right. There are all kinds of bronzers: matte, shimmery, light, dark. Do they make your head spin? Lets break it down….

What is bronzer? Bronzers are designed to give your face a fresh sun-kissed look. Like you spent the day at the beach. It is supposed to help you sculpt your face a bit. And if used right, it will help you look more healthy by adding another dimension. It is not designed to make you look tanned, or to darken your overall tone. It is not the same as blush, and not to be applied like blush.

What type is best? That all depends on your version of best. For simplicity, you can get one of ones that has a slight shimmer and multi-tones of pinks, browns, and creams. Then just apply it like a blush. It will contain bronzer, blush and highlighter. However, I tend to feel that these look best on teens and mid-twenties. I, personally, prefer a matte single shade. You will get a better finish and a better overall look. As far as color, you can as dark or light as you want. The darker you go, the more dramatic it will be and the harder it will be to blend. For a daytime look, try to stay with two to three shades of your natural color. This will give you a very subtle beautiful look.

How do you use bronzer? You will apply bronzer in the shape of a three along both sides of your face.

    1. You will want to start at the hollows of your cheeks. Since bronzer is darker than your skin, it will make the area recede a bit and make your cheek bones a bit more apparent. You do not want to apply on your cheek bones or you will lose some of your shape. The hollows are the area just below the cheek bone. If you suck in your cheeks, making the fishy face, you will see them.
    2. Sweep towards your hairline, along the bottom of the cheek bones.
    3. You will sweep it up along the hair-line towards your temples.
    4. Then you will sweep it down the sides of your face to your jaw line and sweep it just below your jaw.
    5. Blend. Blend. Blend. Then blend a little more. If your bronzer is done right, it will just give a very slight color with no visible lines. If done wrong, you will look a bit orange or dirty. Neither of those are what you are going for. When in doubt go for a very light, sheer look.

When wearing bronzer, you will still apply your blush like normal. You will still want that flush face look.

How about you? Does this time of year have you reaching towards the bronzer? If so, what kind do you like the best?

  • LOTW- Green With Envy

    photo (31)

    LOTW- Green with Envy

This week, lets play a bit with some color. We have done a “Pretty in Pink” look and a “Golden Goddess” look. Both were very pretty, but they didn’t really let us play with very much color, since they were both more natural looks. Green is a color, that looks good on everyone. It will flatter blue eyes, it will make brown or hazel eyes stand out, and it will really pop making a striking statement on a super fair redhead. So, lets play!!!

    Materials Needed:

    • Green Kohl Eyeliner
    • Natural at Night- Too Faced Pallet (see review on this¬†here)
    • ¬†Big Eyes- Maybelline Mascara (see review on this here)
    • CC¬†Cream-¬†Studio Gear (see review on this here)
    • Bronzing Powder- Wet N Wild (see review on this tomorrow!!!)
    • Forever Young- LUSH Cosmetics (see review of this here)
    • Truffle Tease- Maybelline Lipstick (see review of this here)

All of the products that I am using in this tutorial have all been reviewed by me!! Pretty cool!! You can click on any of the links to see my thoughts on each of the products being used.

    Step 1-
Line eyes with the Green Kohl eyeliner.

    Step 2-
Apply Spotlight all over your lid. From lash line to eyebrow.

    Step 3-
Apply Full Moon on the inner third of your eyelid.

    Step 4-
Apply Night Fever on the outer third of your lid. From the lash line to crease.

    Step 5-
Apply Moon Stone in your crease and slightly above. You will want to start on the outside of your eye moving towards your nose, you will want to bring that about two thirds of the way into your crease.

    Step 6-
Apply the CC Cream cream to your face. Stipple in on under your eyes, around your nose, on your chin and in between your eyebrows. Then blend in using circular motions. Always be sure to end your blending by using downward motions.

    Step 7-
With the green of the eyeshadow, I am not a huge fan of using bright or pink blushes. I like keeping everything else very neutral and natural. So keep things simple with just a little bronzer and highlighter. Brush the bronzer on the hallows of your cheeks, about a third of the way into your face from your hairline, up along your hairline to your temples.

    Step 8-
Apply a tiny amount of LUSH Forever Young just above your cheek bones. By having the bronzer under and a little bit of highlighter above you will make your cheek bones look a little more pronounce without a whole lot of effort.

    Step 9-
Apply your lipstick. I like the nude line of Maybelline’s The Buffs.

    Step 10-
Last but certainly not least, curl your eyelashes and apply mascara.

Now step back and admire how gorgeous you are. People will be “Green with Envy”. Do you like playing with different colors? Is green a color that you would wear out and about?

    Party #13

Lucky Number 13!! I cannot believe how fast this year is going. Can you believe that we are in May already. Cinco de Mayo actually. Anyone doing anything fun? I think that we will have tacos for dinner, seems a bit more festive then just chicken. We use ground turkey, trying to stay away from red meat, and black beans, corn, cheese. Pretty typical, but I do make my own tortillas.

Here is what you missed last week:

  • Fashion Friday… Chic Mommy Look

    Mommy Day Look

What do you wear when you are out running around, kids in tow? While I love jeans (as evident by the many jeans and tee looks on my Fashion Friday posts), I am a girly girl. Typically during the summer, I am wearing some kind of cotton dress, some wedges and my dark sunglasses.

    • Dress– I am such a fan of cotton sun dresses. Here our summers are typically over 100 degrees and even nights can stay above that. It is HOT. Little cotton sun dresses are a must; they are breathable and light. Plus they just scream girly, and you feel so put together wearing a dress. You can find them pretty cheap in just about every color you can imagine. I however am a huge fan of black and white. There is something so chic about it.
    • Shoes– My favorite shoe is a stiletto heel, but chasing after three kids they are just not feasible. A wedge is a nice compromise. It gives you some lift, makes you feel pulled together, and gives a nice touch over sneakers or flip-flops. I am in love with these solid black peep toed ones. So very classy.
    • Purse– When I am making short trips out, IE I don’t need an entire diaper bag, maybe just a few ¬†“My Little Ponies” and a diaper of two; I love my coach bag. It says, “Oh yea I am a mom, but I still got it”. No idea what “it” is, but it makes me happy telling that I got it. It is a small piece of a life gone by when I had designer stuff. Don’t get me wrong, I love my kids more than anything, and I am thrilled that I spoil them. I so prefer shopping for them over getting an item for me. But my coach purse, I love too. Us moms get to be spoiled every once in a while too.
    • Sunglasses– I don’t go anywhere without my sunglasses. It could be 10:00 at night, you bet those suckers are on my head. I feel so naked, so exposed without them. My hubby makes fun of me to no end because of it. I have even been known to go back, at night, to get them if they are forgotten. We all have our quirks, right?

What about you guys, what do you like to run around wearing?

    {As a total side note, this is my 100 posted post!!! Wow!!! Thank you to all of my wonderful readers!! }
