  • Benefit WingWomen Party!

I don’t normally do a Saturday post, but this was just to awesome not to chat about! Plus it is national Benefit WingWomen Party weekend. Amazing WingWomen all over the nation are having their parties this weekend! What is a wingwoman? She is the person that you go to to have your back. She is the one that is always there for you. She is the one that you call first for everything. We all have at least one, and if we are really lucky we have a few. This party is to celebrate them, our WingWomen.

BirchBox and Benefit Cosmetics teamed up to gift 500 lucky girls a box full everything that they need to through the ultimate wing party for five of their besties! I am going to be the hostest with the mostest for a while.

    What came in the box:

    • Minis of They’re Real Mascara plus one full size
    • Minis of They’re Real Push Up Liner plus one full size
    • Minis of The Porefessional
    • Minis of Lollitint
    • Full Size Gimme Brow- One in light/med and one in med/dark
    • Full Size Hoola Bronzer- Only One
    • Then all the extras a good party needs: gift bags, balloons, fun coasters

When my guests arrived, they were surprised to say the least. See I like surprise parties, so I didn’t tell anyone that (1) they were going to a party or (2) that THEY were the ones getting presents. We had all the traditional party foods ready to go. Pizza, cupcakes, more soda then anyone should ever drink. All of the gift bags were prepped and sitting out with everyone’s names on their bags. Being the mama that I am, I made everyone eat lunch and socialize before they could have their cake. Then we had cake while chatting some more. All while staring at these pretty bags with their names on them. It was so fun watching my girlfriends (and daughter), giggle and guess as to what was going on. They acted like teenage girls again, wanting their presents. White bags, pink paper and name tags were the downfall of my group.

When I finally announced that it was present time, they literally dropped everything. Food went straight to the trash, conversations halted mid-sentence, bouncing and giggling ensured. I LOVED handing out their gifts, and they LOVED what they were filled with. Each guest received: a mascara, a gel eyeliner, a porefessional, a lollitint, and a bit of chocolate. And in true toddler fashion, the packaging was all ripped away and out came the makeup. Within minutes, we were applying makeup to each other. Doing makeovers like little girls; laughing, giggling, trying out new products.

It was without a doubt, the best afternoon in a long time. With the day to day stuff that needs to get done, I forget how fun an afternoon at home with my girls can be.

  • Fashion Friday- Do’s And Don’ts Of Denim Jackets

    Jean Is Back!!

Whether you want to admit it or not, jean is back. And back with vengeance. Seems like a lot of the 90’s trends (be sure to check in next week to talk about plaid), are making it to the table this season. Most of my high school days were spent in jean jackets. Living in a small town now, where it is perfectly acceptable to go to dinner in jeans and cowboy boots, this is great. Get to be stylish, and warm!!

But there are a few rules about wearing jean, you want to make sure that it is helping you look pulled together; not just lazy. So here is my list of the “Do’s and Don’ts” of wearing jean.

Top 10 Rules To Wearing A Denim Jacket

    • Do– Pair it with a dress and cowboy boots. This is a great way to extend the life of your summer cotton dress for a least a few more weeks.
    • Don’t– Be afraid to have more then one. A dark one to go out with the hubby and a light one to run around with the kids.
    • Do– Make sure it has a bit of structure to it. It will help pull the waist in, making you look more hourglass shaped.
    • Don’t– Go the vest route. If you are rocking the jean jacket, then rock the jean jacket.
    • Do– Wear your jacket with a shirt that has a pattern on it, think stripes or polka dots. This will give the outfit a fun bit of pop.
    • Don’t– Wear denim on denim. I know that all the “it” stars are doing it, but it just looks odd to me.
    • Do– Wear it with the black on black outfit. I LOVE wearing my black pants, with my black tank, a pair of black heels, and my jean jacket.
    • Don’t– Have a liner. While it’s very helpful on the farm to have a fur liner, while in the city… Don’t.
    • Do– Add a fun scarf to add interest. Particularly in that black on black outfit.
    • Don’t– Be afraid to have fun and try something new.

I am loving this trend. Loved it as a teen too (so glad mom kept all those old jackets after all. She always said, “Good styles will always come back into fashion.” Thanks mom). How about you guys, are you getting into this trend. Did I miss any “rules” that you follow?

  • SmashBox Sample Box

    photo 1 (62)

Smashbox FINALLY came out with a sample box full of their top selling products!! Smashbox is a mid-price brand that you can pick up at any Sephora or Ulta. While it is not a cheap brand to try, it is certainly priced where you can enjoy it; once you know what you like.

It has been one of my favorite brands for a long time. Their primers are the absolute best on the market, and they have a full range; based on what you are trying to accomplish. There is a green one to help combat redness, a purple one to make your skin look a bit lively, a peachy one if you need color correction, a clear on for if you will be doing a photo session, and so many more. They are a staple in my collection.

While I love their primers, I had not tried any of their other products. When I saw this little box at Sephora, I knew it was coming home with me. And for only $19, you just can’t beat it.

    photo 3 (30)

What came inside, while just travel/sample sized, was a great value:

    • Photo Finish Eye Primer– All of their face primers are amazing, and this is no different. You only need a tiny pat of this onto your eyelids and your shadow will last all day. I would apply my makeup early in the morning, and on days that I used it, I went to bed looking as good as I did going out first thing.
    • Photo Finish Foundation Primer– In my makeup bag, I always have some of their foundation primers. But this was a first that I tried this one, and again, I was not disappointed. My pores were gone, any shine was gone, my foundation looked amazing on it, and I looked airbrushed in photos. When using this, there is always a reason to take a selfie.
    • Limitless Eyeliner in Black– This was what I was most looking forward to trying. I am a bit of a black eyeliner hoarder, well really any eyeliner. This is my new favorite one; it glides on so smoothly, there is no tugging or skipping in the line; it does not budge (even when applied to the waterline), it is truly a long lasting eyeliner. And it is a solid, rich, dark black.
    • Full Exposure Mascara– This was a very good mascara. It does give a ton of volume on the lashes, it does not clump or flake, and it is a great solid color. The reason that I am not loving it is because, it does not give any length. My lashes have the volume, but they are short; so I am needing something to help with the length. For me, this is not the ideal mascara because of that; but if you are needing help with volume this this would be amazing for you.
    • Lipgloss– This was amazing, while on the sticky side, it is a peachy sheer color that has TONS (and I mean TONS) of shine. I like to apply it over my lip color (since it has no color on its own), to really kick up my lip game.

What do you think of this sample box? Is this something that you would give a go to, or do you just dive right in and try the full size product?

  • LOTW- Got The Blues?

Love the color blue? Want to learn how to wear this trendy color, without looking like Mimi from the Drew Carey Show? There are so many great perks about wearing blue. First, it makes the whites of your eyes look whiter. Second, it opens the eyes wider. And lastly, it is a fun way to be a little bit edgy; without feeling like you are trying to be a teen. You can go dark/navy blue, there is bright/electric blue, there is a light/sky blue; so many options and ways to wear it.

This season the trend is to wear the lighter shades of blue under your eye. This will give your eyes a wider, more open look. If you favor the darker, bolder blues, it is best to wear this on your upper lash line to amp up the edge. If you are going to rocking the blue, then it is best to keep all of your other makeup very neutral and natural.

    MakeUp Needed-

    • MAC Eyeshadow- Brulee
    • MAC Eyeshadow- Omega
    • Rimmel Eyeliner- Navy
    • No7 Lift and Luminate Foundation
    • Bobbie Brown blush- Antigua
    • No7 Lipstick- Rumor
    • Benefit- They’re Real Mascara

    Step 1-
Apply Brulee all over your eyelid- from lash to eyebrow.

    Step 2-
Apply Omega into your crease, using windshield type motions.

    Step 3-
Apply Navy eyeliner to your upper lash line. For a nice winged look, make the outer corners a bit thicker and thin it out as you move inward.

    Step 4-
Stipple on your foundation where you need it most. Think under your eyes, around your nose, on your forehead and on your chin.

    Step 5-
Blend in foundation using small circular motions all over your face.

    Step 6-
Apply blush, starting at your hairline and moving down your cheekbone.

    Step 7-
    Swipe lipstick on your lips.

    Step 8-
As always, last but not least, curl your eyelashes and apply your mascara.

This is a quick and simple look, yet you will look pulled together, chic and trendy. So how about you, would you be able to pull off the blue eyeliner trend? What are your thoughts on it?

  • Fashion Friday- Chic WorkOut Gear

    photo 1 (61)

It is FRIDAY!! I do love friday’s!! My normal Fashion Friday posts have cute outfits, trendy items and so on. But this week, I thought that I would do something a little different. How about what we wear to all of our “keeping us looking fit” stuff (aka- exercise)? Influencer VoxBox had teamed up with Victoria Secret to help spread the word about their new workout line of clothes.

While I don’t get to workout as much as I like, I do like workout gear. And on the rare chance that the hubby and I get to go rock climbing, I like looking cute. Yes, I am going to get all chalky, sweaty and stinky. Still, I like looking good anytime I get alone time with the hubs. Because I can admit to being vain like that, I will also admit that I was stoked when Victoria Secret came out with this line. Even more stoked to get it for free in my VoxBox. (While I got this box for free, all opinions are my own and are not influences by Victoria Secret or Influencer).

In my pretty pink Victoria Secret box-

    • VSX Incredible Workout Bra– “A truly Incredible maximum support sport bra that’s perfect for running, boxing and high-impact workouts. With Body-Wick fabric to keep you cool and dry, and bonded, seamless technology for extra comfort. Plus, a super-soft elastic band and racerback. Get a runway body in performance workout gear from Victoria’s Secret Sport. (per Victoria Secret site)”
      • This is by far the best sports bra. I love that it has actual cups, instead of just smushing your girls up against you; and it has major support for them. Also, the straps are padded which makes it so comfortable.
    • VS Knockout High Rise Capri– “Second skin fit, sexiest butt ever: the VS Knockout capri pant flaunts the same body-loving fit and ultra-stretchy fabric of the cute crop, for maximum movement and style. Get a runway body in performance workout gear from Victoria’s Secret Sport. (per Victoria Secret site).
      • Wow. Is all that I have to say. These really do fit like a second skin. They are nice and snug, without being tight. I love that they are a little higher rise; instead of getting some cupcake action, it holds you in without being uncomfortable. It does give your butt a little lift.

    photo 2 (61)

The downside to this line, it is incredibly expensive. If you were to walk into a store the bra will cost you around $49.50 (and up) and the capris will run $62.50. Per outfit it will run you a grand total of $112 + tax. Even with the 25% off coupons they sent with the VoxBox you are looking at $100. While I am in love with it, I personally don’t workout enough to justify going out to buy it. How about you guys? What do you spend on your workout clothes? Is this really what it costs to have good quality exercise gear? Let me know, cause I was a little floored at the price tag.

This is a sponsored blog post. Influenster provided me with complimentary Victoria’s Secret products to test and review as part of a contest.

  • Holy Grail Foundation

    photo 2 (60)

I have finally found it! The absolute perfect, no crease, flawless skin, covers everything you want it to and nothing you don’t foundation. And to seal the deal even more.. it is a drugstore brand; no $100 price tag here. LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

So I am normally a BB Cream type girl. Simple, not to heavy, minimal coverage has been my go to for a while now. The issues that I have with foundation are: cakey, settles into fine lines, to much coverage and heavy. I don’t have perfect flawless skin, I am covered in freckles and I love them. I need something to cover the lines around my eyes, and the redness that pops up around my nose. But other then that, I want my skin to show. I like my “imperfections”. Up to this point, I have not found a foundation that fit the bill; that was also affordable.

Yesterday I posted a great fall look using the No7 drugstore line of cosmetics. I used their Lift and Luminate foundation, and have to admit I am in love with it. Based on the back of the bottle it claims-

“Firmer, even skin with a youthful glow,
visibly firms, lifts, and brightens for
    a more luminous complexion.”

This is a big claim for a drugstore (aka- inexpensive) bottle foundation. I have to admit that when I was at Walgreens, I passed on trying this because I was so worried about the possibility of it being “dewey” (aka shiny) look. If you read my post yesterday, you know that I was able to attend PHX Fashion Week preview event, that Boots No7 was hosting. I was able to ask Sasha, an amazing makeup artist, all my No7 Foundation questions.

    photo 2 (59)

She was able to not only assure me that I would not get that look, but that it really did live up to all the promise. (It is even her choice of makeup when she is not “on the job”). Very tentatively I let her give it a try. It was great, she used their makeup wipes to remove the makeup that I wore to the event and a bit of their moisturizer; then went to work.

Boots No7 has the coolest tool ever. It is a handheld devise that takes a few small photos of your skin (on your jawline, on your cheek, and the last on your forehead). Then compares that pics, analyzes them, then tells which shade of foundation to use. Mind blown.

    photo 1 (60)

It came back that I should be wearing the shade Calico. Sasha was a bit worried that it was to light for my skin (since I have a strong olive undertone). What was the solution? Put it on half my face, then put the shade that she thought on the other half and compare them side by side. Turns out Calico was a bit light (for me is fine, I would rather have it a bit light heading into fall, over being a bit dark). But the shade that she picked was a tiny bit dark (at the beginning of summer would be fine, since I would have tanned a bit). HOWEVER, when I use half a pump of Calico and half a pump of hers it is the PERFECT color!!!!!

When using this a little bit goes a LONG way. Seriously one single pump will cover your entire face, and you will still have a bit left over. I like to stipple the lighter color on under my eyes before mixing the two together to give myself a small highlight. Then I mix the left over with the darker color and stipple over my face. Then blend using small circular motions. It gives a great airbrushed effect.

Has anyone else tried this brand? What are your thoughts on it? What does it take for you to try a new foundation brand?

  • LOTW- Fun Fall Look

    photo (50)

Yea for fall. Is anyone else playing with the darker, bolder colors yet? I tell ya, Labor Day rolled around and I broke out all my edgy colors. While this seasons “it” colors are green and champange; purples will never go out of style. They look amazing on a lot of difference skin tones and eye colors. Plus anyone with green in their eyes will benefit from the purple giving them a huge POP. I was so lucky to have been at a preview event for Phoenix Fashion Week, that Boots No7 was sponsoring and they totally stocked me up on some must haves for this fall. The best part about Boots No7 Cosmetics… They are a drugstore brand that has major playing power, without breaking the bank.

    MakeUp Needed-

    • No7 Lift and Luminate Foundation
    • Black Eyeliner
    • No7 Smoothing and Brightening Base
    • No7 Forest Fruits Eyeshadow Pallet
    • No7 Stay Perfect Long Lasting Mascara
    • No7 Stay Perfect Blemish Cover
    • No7 Moisture Drench Lipstick in Rumor

    Step 1-
Line both upper and lower waterlines with your black eyeliner. I would only line the outer corner bringing it in about 2/3 of the way to your nose.

    Step 2-
Dot a small amount of the Eye Base onto your eyes, and blend all over lid. This is a great peachy nude color that will brighten your eye area, as well as, cover any imperfections on the lid.

    Step 3-
Using your Forest Fruits pallet, sweep the lightest shade all over your eyelid; from lash line to eyebrow.

    Step 4-
Still using the Forest Fruits pallet and a small brush, apply the darkest shade on the outer V of your eyelid. This would be along the lash line, then at the far outer corner blend it up into the crease.

    Step 5-
Last time, using the Forest Fruits pallet blend the mid-tone color into the crease and slightly above it using a windshield wiper motion. You are wanting to blend out any harsh lines.

    Step 6-
Using a stippling brush, stipple the Lift and Luminate Foundation onto the parts of your face that need a bit more coverage (under eyes, around the nose, on your chin and forehead). Using small circular motions blend foundation all over face. Remember to get all the way under your chin and to the hair lines.

    Step 7-
These days it seems like my girls are refusing to sleep. Between the three of them, I seem to be up a few times each night. This is taking a major toll on my dark circles. No7 has a great blemish cover, that covers everything without getting cakey or creasing. If you need a little help looking more awake, apply a swipe of this under the eyes. Then pat to blend in.

    Step 8-
Apply blush along your cheek bones, starting at your hair line and moving toward your nose.

    Step 9-
Apply the lipstick in Rumour to your lips. The nice subtle nude color will help balance out the purple on your eyes, keeping attention to them.

    Step 10-
Last but never least, curl your lashes and apply your mascara.

What about you guys, do you rock the purple eyeshadow? What are you most excited to try with the change of the season?

  • August Ipsy Review

    photo 1 (59)

Again I missed getting my August review posted in August. Ugh! September will be a better month, and I have lots of great posts already planned and waiting for you to read. But before all of that, let’s talk about an amazing box month; I mean across the board was perfect boxes. I am so lucky to have gotten mostly makeup products (since that is the only item I really want).

Ipsy went above and beyond this month. For those of you who don’t know about Ipsy; it is monthly beauty box subscription. Every month they send you a great makeup bag filled with 4-5 beauty sample (plus the bag). This is one of my favorite subscriptions, because you get a great reusable bag every month. They make for great ways to store items, or my daughters tend to swipe them and use them as “purses”. And its only $10 a month! Yea!!

This month was a great bag, white bag with pretty orange polka dots. So cute! Filled inside was:

    • Bee All Natural Lip Balm– I am a lip balm hoarder. Seriously just emptied my purse to find 8 (yes 8) tubes, tins, and balls of lip balm. There is a small issue there. That being said, I LOVE when I get lip balms in my bag and this one is awesome. It has a grapefruit flavor/scent which is so different from most and works great without feeling waxy. Will totally buy again in the future.
    • GlamGlow Youthmud Masque- Normally, I am not a huge mask fan. The idea of walking around for 10-15 minutes with a hard (and oh so pretty) face of mud; not my cup of tea. HOWEVER, this one was really nice. It didn’t feel all tight and dry like most, and it left my face looking radiant and soft. I am not sure if it tightened my skin like it claims, but my skin was nice after. Since masks are not really my thing and that I don’t know if this did what it claimed; I will probably not purchase again in the future.
    • Manna Sheer Glo Shimmer Lotion– This is exactly like what it says it is, a shimmer lotion. It is suppose to be for your face giving you a dewey complexion. For me, it is way to over the top. I do like it for a highlight, on top of the cheek bones for a night out though. Something to be careful of, it does have a strong pink undertone to it. So you certainly don’t need it AND a blush. This little tube will last quite a while for me, but when it is out I am not sure I will buy again. On the fence with this one.
    • Coastal Scents EyeShadow- This is a product that I have heard a lot about lately, it seems like everyone is trying it. I was so excited to be getting it in my bag, but it ended up being colors that I would never (and I mean NEVER) wear. So a little disappointed there.
    • Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Eye Pencil– This was the one item that I was so excited to get. There is so much great buzz about it and it was in a great eggplant purple color. It does not work well on the waterline, a little bummed but can get over it. It works amazing on the top lash line, really lasts forever. No smudging or feathering, just a perfect line all day long. The sample that they sent will last forever (like half of the size of a full size). But here is the deal breaker for me. I went to sharpen it, and you have to buy their sharpener to sharpen it. Ugh, not going to go load up the kids, go to the mall, and buy a $20 sharpener. For this reason I will not purchase ANY additional UD pencils. Boo, hate when companies do this, but if you don’t mind, then this is a GREAT eye pencil.

See another great bag. Does anyone else get their monthly bag from Ipsy? Need more information or want to sign up. Just click below to go there!
