    Big Little Lies

This book was an amazing read. All the little twists and turns lead up to one that you will never see coming. I can normally predict the ending of a book, and this one had me completely blind sided.

The back of the book states:

“Big Little Lies follows three women, each at a crossroads. Madeline is a force to be reckoned with. She is funny, biting, and passionate; she remembers everything and forgives no one. Her ex-husband and his yogi new wife have moved into her beloved beachside community, and their daughter is in the same kindergarten class as Madeline’s youngest. (How is that possible?) And to top it all off, Madeline’s teenage daughter seems to be choosing Madeline’s ex-husband over her. (How. Is. This. Possible?)

Celeste is the kind of beautiful woman who makes the world stop and stare. While she may seem a bit flustered at times, who wouldn’t be, with those rambunctious twins? Now that the boys are starting school, Celeste and her husband look set to become the king and queen of the school parent body. But royalty often comes at a price, and Celeste is grappling with how much she is willing to pay.

New to town, single mom Jane is so young that another mother mistakes her for the nanny. Jane is sad beyond her years and harbors secret doubts about her son. But why? While Madeline and Celeste soon take Jane under their wing, none of them realizes how the arrival of Jane and her inscrutable little boy will affect them all.

Big Little Lies is a brilliant take on ex-husbands and second wives, mothers and daughters, schoolyard scandal, and the dangerous little lies we tell ourselves just to survive.”

Big Little Lies starts a bit slow, I won’t lie (big or little). She does a wonderful job laying out each character; how they relate to each other; how they relate to their families, how the allies come around. You truly love all the characters, you care about each of them for all different reasons. You can relate to them; you are them or one of your best friends are them.

Once you get to the meat of the story you want the main characters to come out, alive and innocent, at the end of the book. The books speed never really picks up, however, you are so invested in the people in the story that you just can’t put it down. There is this need that develops, that you have to find out what happens next.

Then the ending hits you like a truck load of bricks. I promise that you won’t see it coming. It completely blind sides you. This was one of those rare books that was able to surprise me. Then I was actually sad to say goodbye to these women that I grew to truly care about.

If you are going to be reading one book this month, I would highly recommend this one. Click below for more information:

  • LOTW- Fall TV Is Back

    2014 fall tv line up

Okay so not really a LOTW, but I do get a lot of inspiration from watching some of my favorite TV. And fall TV has way more dramas, which leads to way more dramatic makeup looks to draw on. See it does tie in; if we stretch a bit.

This is my tv line up. Well, this is my ideal line up, if I didn’t have three kids, animals, a hubby and a house to take care of. Most of the time I don’t get to watch most of this, and if I am going to be really really honest I only really watch two shows a week, and never when they are actually on. But it makes for a great date night in, when both the hubby and I have a free night. We pop popcorn, pop a bottle wine, snuggle, and catchup on all the TV that we are not watching.

    • Monday Night-
      • Black List
      • Big Bang Theory
      • Gotham
      • The Originals
    • Tuesday Night-
      • Hmmmm.. I actually don’t have anything recording on Tuesday nights any more.
    • Wednesday Night-
      • SVU
      • Nashville
    • Thursday Night (Don’t laugh, but this is my guilty pleasure night)
      • Vampire Diaries
      • Parenthood
      • Bones
    • Friday Night-
      • Girl Meets World (New spin on the old Boy Meets World show)- We love snuggling up with our girls at the end of the week, having a TV date night with them.
    • Saturday Night-
      • We don’t actually have any shows here, normally this is our TV date night night. Catching up on a few shows during the week.
    • Sunday Night-
      • Once Upon A Time
      • Revenge

Did I get them all? What shows do you watch that are not on my list? What are you most looking forward to watching this fall?

  • Fashion Friday- Asking YOU!!!

    fashion friday

With fall in the air and the change of seasons, there is a change of fashion. Our makeup becomes darker and heavier. Our clothing changes to warmer clothes of sweaters and scarves.

And it seems that this season, we are having a lot of returning fashions from yesteryear. So today, fashion friday is asking YOU…..

    • What fashions have you baffled?
    • What fashion questions are on your mind?
    • What item has you scratching your head?

I am looking forward to hearing from you. Lets get those questions started!!!

  • Review- September Birchbox

One day I will get back on track, and have the reviews for the boxes I get; actually in the months that I get them. In my defense though, I am not even located in the city that they are shipped to. So they get to city (1) mid month, then wait a week or so, then are shipped to city (2). Then I want to try them BEFORE telling you about them. See this is why I have not been getting the reviews done in the months that I get them.

This was another great BirchBox month! I love that lately they are letting you pick an item to go into your box, or keep it a surprise if that is your thing. It is so fun, actually getting to pick something that is going to show up. While I love the aspect of getting a surprise, and this box is still chalked full of surprises, the control part of me likes that I get to choose something. BirchBox is a monthly beauty subscription, that comes full of 4-5 products to try. It is a mid-month present!! Some months are better then others, but for only $10 you can’t go wrong.

What was in this amazing month’s box-

    • Naobay Body Lotion– This is a great lotion, and really packs a punch. However, it is a bit oily so best used at night.
    • Macadamia Professional Flawless Cleansing Conditioner– This was one product that I had to use a few times before I got any results. It replaces your shampoo and conditioner. That was a little odd, and after using it the first time my hair was still a little oily looking. But by the third time that I used it, my hair was soft, full of body, manageable and so shiny. Very different hair then I had earlier in the week.
    • Dr Bandt Pores No More Vaccum cleaner– AMAZING!!! And it has a cool factor (in more then one way). It works like a mask; you apply it in a thin clear layer, then wait 5-10 minutes and wash off with warm water. You know that it is done because of the cool tingling feeling and it will go from clear to a solid blue. After using, my skin was very very clean and my pores were noticeably smaller.
    • Laura Mercier Mascara- This is a great, running around with the kids, mascara. While it does not give much in the category of volume or length, it does last forever and doesn’t flake or smudge. It is a great day mascara when you are not needing a lot of punch.
    • Cynthia Rowley Silver Eyeliner- In both of my boxes this month, I got a silver eyeliner. Maybe it is a hint of this seasons trends. This is a very creamy, very metallic, shimmer silver color. It will be perfect for the holidays! A lot of fun, but be warned, it gets all over the eyelashes. Use a good mascara after lining.

What are your thoughts on this box? Do you use a monthly subscription service? Which ones are you loving? If you want more information on BirchBox, please click here.

  • September Ipsy Bag- Review

    ipsy 2

(Picture provided by Ipsy. We were so excited that we ripped into this one before
taking a picture of my actual items…. Sorry)

Another AMAZING Ipsy bag!! I know that I started off a little rough with Ipsy, and it had me questioning whether it was worth the hassle or not. I am so so so glad that I stuck around. Who knows if they are just getting better stuff (aka- stuff I want), or if they really do pay attention to what I am liking and so they are better picking for me. But either way their products ROCK this month.

Ipsy is a monthly beauty bag that sent to you every month. It is like a mini-present tailored just for you, plus it comes in a pretty pink bubble wrap packaging. When you sign up, you fill out a survey stating what you would like to see in your bag. You get 4-5 products each month, in a reusable makeup bag. And for only $10 a month, you can’t go wrong.

This months theme was “Street Style”. So everything had a bit more of an edge to it.

    • Nourish Organic Face Cleanser– Okay this is not so edgy, but important to remove all the edginess. This is a really gentle organic cleanser, that is for all skin types.
    • Duel Ended MakeUp Brush by Crown– Normally I don’t buy duel ended brushes, because you can’t stand them up to store them. So this one will end up in my drawer which is sad, because it is a really good brush. The shadow side is really dense, but soft, bristles that pack on a lot of color. The crease side is really small, giving you a lot of control and precision when applying color.
    • Pacifica Natural Eyeliner in Silver– LOVE this. It is an easy to use traditional pencil eyeliner in a metallic silver color. This will look good on everyone, really edge up your look. Can’t wait to play with it and use in it one of my LOTW. Stay tuned.
    • Cailyn Art Touch Lipgloss in Love Affair– WOW… That is what I have to say about this. I am floored (and that takes a lot to do). First, it was a full size lipgloss, which is so nice. Second, there is absolutely no stickiness. None what so ever! Third, the color pay off is out of this world. I like glosses, but normally you don’t get a ton of pigment. This one has just as much as a traditional lipstick, with a single swipe of the wand. It is a very dark blue red; think berry. Plus it dries to a semi-matte, that is non-drying. Last, it lasts FOREVER. Eating, drinking, kissing; no big deal for this amazing lip gloss. I will certainly be purchasing this in the future
    • The Bag– One of my favorite parts about this subscription is that is comes with a reusable makeup bag. It is perfect for storing all my samples, brushes, and giving to my girlfriends when I have samples for them. This bag was one of my favorites. It is a silver square made out of faux leather, with silver/chrome studding along the top. Love that the studs are square, perfect accent to the square bag. Don’t think that I will be handing this bag out to anyone.

So thrilled with my bag! Does anyone else get one of these? What are your thoughts? Would you subscribe to a monthly beauty service? If you want to sign up or get more information just click here.
