Can you believe that it is December? We are on the count down for Christmas and staring down 2016. In our house, once we pass Thanksgiving it is not the Christmas Season, we enter “Baking Season”. Personally I HATE to cook, you can’t get around it (cause kids like to eat). But baking, I love to bake; warm bread, cookies right out of the oven. That is why I was so excited to get the opportunity to work with Sprinkles Cupcakes and kick off our baking season with their yummy cupcakes.
These are no ordinary cupcakes, that you whip up from a box that you picked up at the store. These are gourmet quality, but from your kitchen, cupcakes. They are rich, dense (yet light), moist pieces of perfection. If you are so lucky to live in a city where you can go down and get one I would highly recommend it. Go now. I promise you won’t regret it. If you don’t live near one, no worries; you can order their mixes and make them at home.
Their packing is spot on. They come in these sturdy canisters (my crafting mind already has other plans to reuse these). In the package comes their mix, directions to make, and a frosting recipe. With as great as the cupcakes are, I am telling you these frosting recipes are worth every penny alone. If you have a frosting lover in the house, you will win major points with these. (I may have made an extra batch just for us to eat with a spoon)
Now, fair warning, there is a reason why these don’t taste like store bought mixes; it is because they take quite a bit more work. No dumping everything together, mixing it up and throwing it in the oven. It will be well worth is though.
The Peppermint Chocolate is a huge hit for any of the chocolate lovers in your family. It is rich chocolate, with just the right amount of peppermint. The frosting is the one that we made an extra batch just to munch on. (However, we left out the chocolate and left it as a vanilla frosting) Be warned they are very rich. Even my sweet, chocolate loving girls had a hard time finishing these. Maybe bake them as mini cupcakes. Just a thought.
The Red Velvet is simply divine! If you are a red velvet fan, then don’t miss this one. It is so much better then any red velvet that I have ever tried. Plus the cream cheese frosting recipe that comes with it, is the absolute perfect cream cheese frosting. You can taste the cream cheese, but it is not over the top. It is sweet, but not like sugary sweet. (Sometimes I find that cream cheese frosting is either to cheesy or way to sweet. Not the case here) Since the peppermint was so rich, we made these as mini cupcakes and it made 4 dozen! Not to the wise, you will end up with a TON of mini cupcakes. Don’t worry, they will be gone very quickly.
While the price point is a bit higher for these compared to a box at the store, they are worth every dollar. I would recommend sending it as a gift this season, or just ordering some for your own cooking.
