Gift Giving Made Easy- DIY Snowmen
OMG how cute are these little snowmen! Everyone seemed to love my DIY Turkeys, (Click here for that amazingly cute post) so I thought that we needed to do something for winter. And who doesn’t love snowmen? This is the perfect little gift for the snowman lover in your family. Plus they were so simple that even my 4 year old made on completely on her own!Β
I fell in this with this pink and black snowman! He just turned out perfectly, if I do say so myself! Making them is so much easier then the turkeys. (Thank goodness no feathers to deal with) With only a few steps and a little glue, you can whip up a bunch of these little guys. We (Belle, Baby and me) worked on them for about 20 minutes and we put together seven of them.
Step 1- Gather Supplies- If you did the turkeys (or just an everyday crafter) then you have most of this stuff already.
- Socks (kid socks seemed to work the best)
- Ribbon
- Glue
- Peppermint Oil (optional)
- Rice
- Buttons
- Pins
- Rubber Bands
Step 2- Fill Sock and Tie Off- You will want to spoon the rice into the sock. If you are using the essential oil, you will want to drop 2-3 drops about half way. Once your sock is full enough for your liking, use one of the rubber bands and tie off. Then about two thirds of the way down, you will use a second rubber band and tie lightly. This will make the head.
Step 3- Add Hat- Using another sock (either keeping it all white or adding one with a little color) roll the sock a few times and place on head. It makes a super cute little hat, and covers the part where you tied it off.
Step 4- Add Scarf- Using some ribbon or thin piece of cloth, add a scarf around the neck of the snowman. This will cover the rubber band that you used to make the head.
Last– Just push in the pins for the eyes, and glue on a few buttons. I did choose to use a sharpie to color his eyes black. That is up to you though, my girls left theirs white and they are just as cute. That is it, your are done!
It is that simple to whip up some of these. And best part, the few items that I didn’t have laying around the house (like some new kids white socks), I was able to pick up the dollar store. For less then $5.00 we made half a dozen of these guys. The kids had so much fun, they were able to make one from start to finish completely by themselves.
What are your thoughts on these little snowmen? Are they something that you would like to make with your kids? Do you have all the supplies already laying around the house? Let me know your thoughts.

Those are so cute. I bet they are a great craft for little ones, which makes them a perfect grandparent gift!

They are the perfect grandparent gift! My girls grandparents LOVED them (we gave them out early, so they could be up for the holiday season; not just packed away until next year). Be sure to let me know how they go over π

Love the rubber band idea. MIL made them for each of the kids midway through our Thanksgiving road trip. They were darling and we loved them, but they were lightly stiched with thread so we will be loving the rice in the car for several more vacuumings!
Kat Ryan
Oh no! Rice get stuck into everything. Well it was a nice thought from MIL. Good luck getting it out. Thanks for popping by

LOL Oh I hear that Pinterest can turn into huge hilarious fails. Thanks for sharing your pattern π

I would suggest to use string to tie them off rather tan or over the rubber bands in case the rubber band should break. that is what we used when we made them. they were cute.
Kat Ryan
That is a great idea!!! Thank you for the suggestion π
Melissa
Can these be made with larger socks to make bigger ones as well you think?
Kat Ryan
Hi! YES!!!!! We made a bunch with adult male socks. They kinda turned out a little plump lol. But also super cute to have a full family of them :). How did yours turn out?

I made one with some old socks I no longer wear… He looks cute in a gothic kinda way (I only had black and white striped socks!) Hopefully my mum likes him, as I made it for her :’)
Kat Ryan
Oh I would love a gothic kind of one. Very nightmare before Christmas. How did you mum like it?
Shannie
She laughed haha! She didn’t want him, so he stayed at mine on our windowsill!
Kat Ryan
Oh no!! Well I am glad that he found a place on your windowsill. Gothic little snowmen need love too. lol
