We all want to take care of our health and wellbeing. This is a given. Believe it or not, your skin is your largest organ, so you really do need to dedicate some time and effort into taking proper care of it. Here are some steps that can help you to achieve this!

Stay Hydrated

Perhaps the easiest step you can take that will have a significant impact on the health of your skin is to stay hydrated. Always bear in mind that the average adult body is composed of 60% water, so you really do need to keep your levels topped up in order to remain sufficiently hydrated. Signs of dehydration can quickly begin to show on your skin through symptoms such as dullness, tightness, flakiness, and dryness. Not only does this look unappealing, but it can be uncomfortable too. The best thing you can do to remain hydrated is to drink plenty of water. It’s generally recommended that you get roughly eight glasses of water a day! You can go a step further by making sure to eat plenty of hydrating foods. These are foods that tend to have a high water content, such as tomatoes, melon, berries, celery and cucumber.

Identify Your Skin Type

Next, it’s time to create your own skincare routine. This will help you to take care of your skin, providing it with all of the products that it needs to thrive and be as healthy as possible. Of course, to cater to your skin, you need to know what it needs and you can find this out by identifying your skin type. Now, everybody’s skin type is going to be slightly different, so you’ll find that you will need different products to cleanse, tone and moisturise it as best possible. The four main categories of skin types are normal skin, dry skin, oily skin, and combination skin. Once you know which category your skin falls into, you’ll be able to choose the right products to combat any problems.


  • Normal skin – most people consider “normal skin” their desired skin type. It generally doesn’t have all too many problems. It is balanced without patches that are excessively oily or dry.


  • Dry skin dry skin can be caused by dehydration, or you may have naturally dry skin. The clue for this skin type is in the name. This type of skin produces lower levels of sebum than “normal skin”, which can result in a rough or dull texture and tightness.


  • Oily skin – oily skin tends to come hand in hand with problems opposite to those experienced with dry skin. Oily skin produces too much sebum, resulting in problems such as visible pores or a slick and greasy skin appearance.


  • Combination skin – lastly, we have combination skin. This skin type is essentially a combination of some of the skin types listed above. If you have combination skin, you may find that you have normal skin in some areas, dry skin in others and oily patches elsewhere.

These forms of exercise are great for your overall cardiovascular health and can also help to boost stamina. On top of this, you will burn excess calories and it has the extra added bonus of giving you an opportunity to spend more time outdoors. If you have a local pool nearby, swimming could be another option for you. When it comes down to it, swimming is a great, all-round form of exercise that’s suitable for almost anyone. If you can’t swim, you can have lessons to get you started with the basics. This is a valuable life skill and it’s always good to work on your swimming to help yourself become a strong swimmer. It will also work out most areas of your body, while being easy on the joints. When you swim, the water around you creates resistance as you swim against it. This can help you to build your strength.

For those who are competitive or want a more social element incorporated into their exercise regime, there are sports clubs. These allow you to work hand in hand with a team of other people to achieve a common goal (winning the game) at the same time as getting a thorough workout. There are so many different types of clubs out there that there’s bound to be one that will appeal to you. Some of the most popular options include football clubs, rugby clubs, dance clubs, hockey clubs, lacrosse clubs, martial arts club and more.
