Catching a cold is never fun. The sore throat, the congestion, the constant sneezing. It's enough to knock you out of your routine for days. And while there's no magic cure, certain remedies can make you feel better faster and keep your body strong as it fights off the virus.

A lot of people decide to reach for a mug of premium chicken bone broth, and for good reason. It's warm, nourishing, and packed with nutrients that support your immune system. But broth is only the beginning, and we're going to start with it in our list of five things you need when you have a cold.

  1. Bone Broth. When your appetite disappears and your throat feels raw, sipping on something warm and soothing like premium chicken bone broth can make a massive difference. It's more than just comfort food. Because it's loaded with collagen, amino acids, and minerals, it supports your immune function and gut health. The steam can help to open up your nasal passages, while the savory flavor makes it easy to enjoy even when your taste buds. Drink it on its own or add soft cooked rice and veggies for a light and healing meal.
  2. Fluids. Hydration is key when you're sick. Fevers and congestion can cause fluid loss. A dry throat can also make your symptoms worse, and while water is great, warm teas, diluted fruit juices, and electrolyte drinks make a bigger difference. Herbal teas like ginger or chamomile can use nausea, calm inflammation, and help you to sleep better, and these are all critical when you're trying to recover.
  3. Easy to digest foods. Heavy meals feel overwhelming when you're sick, so focus on the simple, nourishing options that your body can process. It's why most people tend to soups, oatmeals, toast and bananas. These foods provide calories and nutrients without putting too much strain on the digestive system. Steamed veggies, soft fruits and cooked grains are also gentle on the stomach and help to fuel recovery.
  4. A humidifier or steam. Colds often come with dry Airways, congestion and irritated sinuses. But a humidifier adds moisture to the air, which makes it easier to breathe and soothes those dry nasal passages and throat. If you don't have one, inhaling steam from a bowl can really make a difference. Take a steamy shower as that can also help, but for an extra boost add a few drops of eucalyptus or peppermint oil to the water.
  5. You need rest and time. This may be the most important thing of all. Your body heals while you rest, so don't fight it. Cancel your plans, stay in bed, and let your immune system do its job. Nourish yourself with the premium chicken bone broth we've mentioned and drink plenty of fluids. Trying to power through a cold only delays your recovery and increases the risk of getting worse.

When you have a cold, the best thing that you can do is make sure that you're looking after yourself as best you can.
