Gin is the ultimate summertime spirit. With its refreshing botanical flavors and versatility in mixing, it's no wonder why this juniper-based spirit has been a favorite for centuries. But with so many different types of gin on the market, it can be a little overwhelming to choose the right one.
First, let's start with the basics. Gin is made by redistilling a neutral spirit (such as wheat or corn) with a variety of botanicals, with juniper being the most prominent. The botanicals used in gin can vary greatly, giving each gin its own unique flavor profile. Some popular gin varieties include London dry gin, which is a style of gin characterized by its dry, juniper-forward flavor, and navy strength gin, which is a higher-proof gin traditionally used in naval rations.

Now that you know the basics, it's time to break out the shaker and get mixing. One of our favorite gin cocktails is the Bees Knees. This classic cocktail is the perfect balance of sweet and sour and is sure to be a hit at your next summer soiree.

Here's what you'll need:
  • 2 oz gin
  • 3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 3/4 oz honey syrup (to make honey syrup, mix equal parts honey and warm water, stirring until combined)
  • Lemon twist, for garnish
Instructions:
  1. In a shaker, combine gin, lemon juice, and honey syrup.
  2. Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 10 seconds.
  3. Strain into a chilled glass.
  4. Garnish with a lemon twist and enjoy!
So, next time you're looking to beat the heat, reach for a gin and tonic or whip up a Bees Knees. The refreshing botanical flavors of gin are sure to keep you cool, even on the hottest of summer days.
Pro-tip: Experiment with different types of gin to find your favorite, also you can also mix different syrups and garnishes to make different varients of Bees knees.

Cheers!
